Southside Print recently took delivery of some fantastic new printing and finishing equipment. What does this mean for customers? Higher quality, faster printing and production at highly competitive prices!
Xerox Versant 2100 digital press
Firstly, the star of our new line-up is the award-winning Xerox Versant 2100 digital press. This machine takes colour digital printing to a whole new level.
The Versant press accepts a wider range of media, is faster and benefits from more automation than our existing presses. Printed results are hard to tell apart from litho quality (the benchmark by which all printing is judged), particularly when used with the new low-gloss ‘dry ink’ that’s supported by this printing press. Tones and graduations are super-smooth and there is an amazing depth of colour on the printed output from this machine. The resolution could be described as ‘Ultra HD’, being capable of a staggering 2,400 dots per inch x 2,400 dpi maximum output. So all in all, printed results look superb, thin fonts and fine detail render perfectly and photographs really look their very best.
The Versant 2100 is an automated sheet fed press and can print on paper media from a thin 52gsm weight to a substantial 350gsm card weight, so is great whether you need the thinnest of inexpensive flyers or robust business cards, post cards and ultra-thick, posh covers for your brochure or annual report. It’s also very adept with a variety of media types including coated and uncoated papers and boards, labels and even some polyester media for some specialist types of printing work.
The digital printing press can print double-sided automatically, in one pass, which speeds up production significantly. Speed is impressive with a 100 pages per minute being possible for A4 and up to 52 ppm for A3.
Other features of our new printing press include the ability to collate copies, staple in-line and accept variable data (great for personalised mailings). The machine also offers the option of ‘stochastic’ screening which means it can print in a minute random dot formation, making the dots virtually invisible to the naked eye, almost like a continuous tone photographic print.
When it comes to media sizes, the machine typically prints on SRA3 (oversize A3 at 450mm x 320mm) although can print on media as wide as 330mm and as long as 630mm if needed. So, if you need a 6 page A4 ‘roll fold’ brochure, this machine will find it a breeze. With the larger paper sizes being supported by this machine, small banners are also possible although we also have a new machine for even larger format printing, being an HP Z6200. We’ll write a separate post about that machine as it’s all about larger format printing for things like posters for use indoors and out. Just for a taster, though, it can print over a metre wide by almost any length! (We should add that we have additional services available for media wider than a metre, of course). More is to follow later about all of that, here on the Southside Print Blog.
Next up in our new line-up is a Morgana Major folding and perforating machine. It’s quick and easy to use and “does exactly what it says on the tin” i.e. folds and perforates beautifully and accurately (accurate to a tenth of a millimetre). However, it also scores and can incorporate counting and batching if required. What’s more it can handle paper up to 365mm x 674mm so, like the Versant above, is more than capable of dealing with 6-page A4 ‘roll fold’ brochures. Speed is impressive measuring anywhere from 4,500 to 27,500 sheets per hour, the speed being controllable by the operator using it.
