Printed NCR Sets, Menus & Posters for Nelson’s Restaurant, SE1

Design and printing for Nelson's Restaurant

One of our favourite places to eat in Borough High Street is Nelson’s Sandwich Bar & Restaurant. Their food is delicious, freshly cooked and very affordable, but more about that in a moment.  First, we’ll tell you a little about the kind of design and print work we’ve been doing for them recently:

  • Our very own graphic designer Matt Potter designed and supplied artwork, to the customer’s brief, for their brand new menus. These were digitally printed/colour duplicated onto 200gsm white ‘Mondi’ stock. We printed them in full colour both sides onto SRA3 (oversize A3) card, trimmed them down to A3, gloss encapsulated them and then folded them to A4. The reason for the encapsulation, which both laminates the menus and seals the edges, is so that they are waterproof and are easily cleaned after use in the restaurant. We supplied just 28 menus, hence digitally printing them rather than using our litho presses.
  • Matt also designed, printed and supplied two A3 laminated signs/posters which are attractive and eye-catching for use in the restaurant. What better way to announce a special deal to customers!
  • 3-part NCR order padA very practical piece of print was a batch of 3-part NCR sets (pads) which are now being used by waiters and waitresses when taking orders. The restaurant required 100 pads, consisting of fifty 3-part NCR sets per pad. ‘NCR’ stands for No Carbon (as in carbon paper) Required. An NCR set is a multi-part pad, where a person can write on the top copy and, due to clever properties in the paper itself, the pressure of writing duplicates what’s being written onto subsequent sheets, so that different people can all have a copy. In this particular case, each of the 3-part sets has a printed white sheet at the top, followed by a blue and a yellow sheet underneath. So, for example, the waiter or waitress can keep a blue copy, the customer can have the top, white copy and the kitchen staff can have the 3rd, yellow copy. It’s quick and easy, particularly as we ‘micro perf’ (perforate) the pads so that pages can be torn off easily and also because we design the wrap-around cover so that it doubles up as protection under each 3-part set being written upon. That way the next set of 3 sheets doesn’t also duplicate the order. Each order pad also has a board back, to keep it rigid when being used.

Design and printing for Art & Motty, London SE1

Litho, digital & large format printing for Art & Motty Litho, Digital and Large Format Printing

Southside Print London Bridge produces design, artwork and many different types of printing for Art & Motty, a local business with an HQ in London SE1 (more about them below). The printing covers all manner of stationery, labels, point of sale displays and more, including:

  • a series of signs in various sizes and some A1 posters. These were printed, quickly and efficiently, on our large format colour printing machine using a 190gsm ‘photo satin’ stock. The signs were then matt encapsulated for additional protection when in use outdoors;
  • double-sided business cards, which were printed in full colour onto 450gsm silk stock with the addition of a ‘soft touch’ lamination to give them additional protection and a lovely feel;
  • letterheads, which were litho printed using specially mixed spot colours and a 120gsm white stock;
  • loyalty cards, which were printed in full colour onto a 300gsm offset stock;
  • various labels, which were printed on white uncoated ‘crack back’ (easy-peel) label stock. These were then used on the actual product packaging.

All design and artwork was generated by Matt Potter, the in-house graphic designer at Southside Print London Bridge. The stationery, sales and marketing collateral was produced via a mixture of digital, litho and large format printing, as appropriate.

About Art & Motty

Art & Motty, founded in 2015 by Peter (‘Art’) Hall and Dermot (‘Motty’) Egan, began as a spin-off from Art’s other business venture, Food Matters. While Food Matters supplies food and event services to corporate and private clients in high profile London venues, Art & Motty’s purpose is to bring delicious, bespoke food products to the street, via market stalls. Within that new, wider audience, Art & Motty has become known, in particular, for their ridiculously delicious chilled range of brownies, ‘Brownie Points’. The unique range was created originally by Motty when working as Head Chef at Food Matters. The brownies use only natural ingredients, have zero additives and no preservatives. They are also available in an increasingly popular gluten-free variant. Here are just a few of the brownie flavours, to whet your appetite:

  • ‘Raspberry & White Chocolate’, which leaves a lovely mellow, bittersweet taste on the tongue.
  • ‘Double Chocolate Chip’ combines luxurious white and milk chocolate chunks with aromatic Madagascan vanilla extract resulting in a ‘sweet, heavenly taste finishing with delicate floral notes’.
  • For nut-lovers like me, Art & Motty provide ‘Pistachio & White Chocolate’ and ‘Macadamia & White Chocolate’ options. Yum!
  • ‘Chilli and Dark Chocolate’ featuring rich dark chocolate infused with a mild dried chilli powder, creating a smooth, velvety warmth on the throat.
  • New seasonal flavours are added to the range all the time and Motty is finalising a version of their ‘Madagascan vanilla-infused sea salted caramel sauce’ and this is now available in sealed glass jars.
  • Motty has been working hard to create the perfect vegan brownie containing delicate flavour combinations of banana and beetroot which have already proven to be a big hit with our customers at Crave Market in Paddington. These are available to purchase from our market stalls or on-line.
  • Check out more flavours on the website and up-coming additions on their blog.

Brochure Printing for Munro & Forster Communications, London SE1

Brochure printing for Munro Forster CommunicationsSouthside Print London Bridge recently printed some lovely brochures for Munro & Forster Communications, who are based a stone’s throw away from the SE1 printer at Bank Chambers, Borough High Street, just 5 minutes from London Bridge station.

The Contemporary Graphics

Both brochures use smart, modern designs that utilise contemporary ‘flat’ graphics and bright colours. As such, they’re easy on the eye, fresh looking and thoroughly engaging, which is a testament to the skill of the graphic designer, considering the subject matter involved.

The Digital Printing

The brochures were each printed in full colour process (‘CMYK’) from design and artwork supplied by the client’s own in-house graphic designer. Southside Print London Bridge utilised its digital presses to print both jobs as these best suited the relatively low quantities involved — just 100 and 300 were required respectively. Both brochures were printed with 200gsm cover stock and 120gsm internal sheets, which were all then trimmed, collated, folded and saddle-stitched into the finished brochure format. Printing production was turned around in just 2 days from start to finish.

Printing for The Art Academy, Borough, London SE1

Digital printing for The Art Academy

Spring Courses PosterThe Art Academy is one of our close neighbours here in the London Bridge/Borough region of London. They sometimes need posters, brochures and flyers printed and, as we’re in the same SE1 area, we are a natural choice for printing of such items. A couple of examples of marketing collateral produced for them can be seen above and details of both the printing and the Academy follow below.

Open Days PosterWe produced the Spring Courses poster (shown right) using The Art Academy’s own design and artwork supplied and printed it as ten A3 posters and fifty A5 flyers. Both were printed in full colour, single-sided, using our digital printing press. This was perfect for the relatively low volumes required and allowed for a speedy turnaround. The stock used was 170gsm ‘Essential Silk’ which started life at a size of SRA2.

We also produced a similar poster, in the same manner, for their Fine Art Foundation open days. This can be seen on the left and utilised exactly the same ‘Essential Silk’ paper as the first example.

Lastly, we also supplied some full colour, 200gsm brochures (not shown), each incorporating a front flap. Due to the low volume and fast turnaround needed those were produced via colour copy/duplication and finished to a folded size of A5.

Litho Printing for ‘28°-50°’ & ‘Texture’ Restaurants

Printing & design for 28°-50° Wine Workshop & KitchenSouthside Print London Bridge has recently been busy producing printing for the 3 branches of 28°-50° Wine Workshop & Kitchen as well as for their sister restaurant Texture. Litho printing was the process which was mostly used and work produced included business cards, leaflets, brochures, branded alcohol and dessert sheets, paper wine mats and even spot-printed greaseproof paper, which is quite a specialist process.

  • The business cards were litho printed both sides in 2 spot colours onto beautifully textured ‘Oyster’ coloured Conqueror Contour 300gsm card. Artwork was supplied by Southside Print London Bridge;
  • The lovely concertina leaflets – which were like mini brochures – were printed in full colour onto a 250gsm silk stock and again artwork was produced by Southside Print;
  • The alcohol and dessert sheets were litho printed on 190gsm Offset stock, printed in two spot colours;
  • Wine sheets were also litho printed in 2 spot colours, this time onto a ‘Papago Steel Grey’ 80gsm paper stock;
  • The greaseproof paper was litho printed in 1 spot colour.

Our sincere thanks go to all the restaurant staff involved and we’re really looking forward to paying a visit in the near future.

Printing for St George The Martyr SE1

Printing for St George The MartyrSouthside Print London Bridge recently produced artwork and printing for St George the Martyr, a church just a stone’s throw away in Borough High Street, SE1. Included in the work were double-sided business cards which were litho printed in full colour onto 450gsm silk card then finished with a ‘Soft Touch’ lamination. Soft Touch lamination is similar to matt lamination except, as the name suggests, it feels softer, almost like ultra-fine velvet. It’s also very protective, giving the business cards significant resistance to water and accidental damage, meaning that tears and even surface scratches are both highly unlikely to occur.

Southside Print London Bridge also printed leaflets which were digitally printed in full colour onto 200gsm silk stock and various A1 posters which were printed onto 190gsm Photo Satin stock with a matt encapsulation finish. That wasn’t the only large format printing, however, as Southside Print also produced some 3m wide, 500mm high traditional style ‘welcome’ banners which included hemming and eyelets, along with some roller banners which stand 2m high by 850mm wide. These were supplied with a handy carrying case for easy and compact transportation and are a breeze to erect when needed.

About St George The Martyr

Named after Saint George, this Church of England was built in 1735 and falls under the diocese of Southwark.  Built of brick and Portland Stone it is of National historic importance. It lies in historic Borough, South London, located in Borough High Street at the junction of Long Lane, Tabard Street and Marshalsea Road.

Over the years the church had suffered from subsidence and in 2005 received repair funds from the Heritage Lottery Fund.  During the remedial works, Medieval and Roman structures were uncovered — the current building is the third church to be built on the present site, the first being Norman. Digital & Thermo Printing for Barberini Fashion

Digital & thermographic printing for Barberini FashionSouthside Print London Bridge has recently produced digitally printed posters, mounted to foamex, for Barberini Fashion. Business cards were also printed in black and white using a thermographical process for the SE1 business.

Thermographic (‘thermo’) printing

Thermo printing is another printing service offered by Southside Print and the process results in a slightly raised, textured and usually high gloss finish to the areas which have been printed. The printing technique is an inexpensive way to raise the level of type or graphics on the surface of a printed sheet without going to the expense of embossing. The result often has an ‘orange peel’ kind of texture, which is most commonly high gloss. The thermographic process itself involves sprinkling powdered resin onto the still-wet printing ink, which results in the powder sticking to only those parts of the paper or card which have been printed. The sheet is then passed through a heater unit which melts the powder and fuses it to the printed areas, resulting in the innovative finish. The process if often used on things like greetings cards, stationery and invitations and has even been known to print Braille text, due to its raised nature.
