Printed Folders, Inserts, Business Cards & Brochures for Recruitment Consultancy

Printed folders, inserts, business cards & brochures for FBR Recruitment Consultancy

Southside Print has been kept beautifully busy recently by FBR Construction Recruitment, a consultancy based in Southampton. So, despite this customer being well outside of London, our printing and design services were cost effective, competitively priced and logistically viable through the use of inexpensive and reliable overnight couriers. All items were designed by Starling Design who, like Southside Print, are based in London SE1. The various jobs included:

  • A5, full colour, landscape brochuresOne hundred 8 page A5 landscape brochures, which were printed in full colour onto 250gsm silk stock for the interior pages and 350gsm matching stock for the covers. The digital printing machine used in production was an HP Indigo press which, although digital, outputs quality so high it’s virtually impossible to tell it apart from full litho quality (litho being the benchmark against which all printing is compared). Using a digital process saves both time and money and also means that low quantities like this are completely viable, whereas such a small quantity would have been cost-prohibitive on a full litho press due to the higher set-up costs and printing plates required. Once printed, the brochures were laminated with ‘soft touch’ laminate. All in all, the result was excellent.
  • Several hundred double-side business cards, printed in full colour, using a 450gsm silk coated card and, again, a soft touch laminate to protect the cards as well as giving them a lovely tactile feel.
  • Oversize A5 printed folders with brochure, inserts & business card holderOne hundred oversize A5 folders which had a 5mm gusset (spine capacity) and a pocket for leaflets etc. The pocket also included slots to hold a business card. The folders were printed in full colour both sides onto 350gsm silk coated card and matt laminated both sides.
  • We also produced various A4 inserts. Some of these were for use in the folders, so were folded down to A5. They were printed onto 140gsm white ‘Arcoset’ paper and were printed both sides in full colour.

Printed Stationery for ‘Alive and Kicking’ Charity

Printed letterheads and business cards for Alive and Kicking

One of the most interesting customers that we’ve printed for in recent times is Alive and Kicking, who have an office here in London. The registered charity helps to improve lives in Kenya, Zambia and Ghana on the African continent and we’ll explain the innovative yet amazingly effective way they achieve that below.

Printed Letterheads & Business Cards

First, though, a quick note about what we print for them. In their case, it’s very straight forward. We currently print just their letterheads and business cards, which just goes to prove that Southside Print customers don’t have to print much with us in order to be featured in our bi-monthly blog. The letterheads are printed on 100gsm white paper and the business cards are printed double-sided on 340gsm white card, for a few different personnel. The charity supplied its own artwork in this case.

Now, though, we’ll go back to the charity itself and highlight the amazing work it does.

Alive and Kicking

With its headquarters in London, Alive and Kicking is an award-winning African ‘social enterprise’ which creates ethical employment for adults at the same time as improving the quality of life and health of disadvantaged youths. The registered charity uses business practices and the African continent’s passion for football to boost local economies, provide children with the right equipment to play and uses sport as a tool to help combat the spread of deadly diseases including HIV and malaria.

Making a footballSince it was established in 2004, Alive and Kicking has produced over 750,000 footballs, 20% of which were donated to good causes. Alive and Kicking employees individually screen print the footballs by hand and this allows them to be used for promotional purposes by businesses, to be personalised for individuals or printed with messages of any kind for a myriad of other purposes. Every football is hand-stitched using leather which, being locally sourced, helps to support the local communities. This material also means that the footballs are tough, durable and repairable. The organisation is the only formal manufacturer of sports balls on the African continent.

The Alive and Kicking programme has 3 main objectives: Read more

Printed Business Cards, Flyers & Brochures for Gembuild

Printed brochures for Gembuild

A garden buildings company, based in West Sussex, has recently been keeping us busy here at Southside Print in London Bridge. Gembuild, who design and install custom garden buildings throughout the UK, were recently referred to Southside Print for printing and production of their sales and marketing material. These included business cards, various flyers and a new brochure.

Full colour, matt laminated business cardsThe Printing

The business cards, shown on the right, were litho printed in full colour and then matt laminated both sides.

The two different flyers (not shown) were digitally printed on 170gsm white A4 ‘Essential Silk’ stock before being folded in half to A5 size.

A new 32 page A5 landscape brochure is also hot off the press. This was digitally printed in full colour throughout, matt laminated to the cover and saddle-stitched to the spine.

Full colour digitally printed brochures with matt laminated coversThere are a couple of notable aspects to this particular batch of printing — firstly, all lamination was produced in-house using our brand new ‘Matrix’ thermal laminator. This new piece of kit is the No.1 commercial laminator in Europe and allows us to laminate in matt, ‘soft touch’ or gloss finish, totally in-house. What this means for customers is that our lamination will be much faster and better value for them compared to the old days when, like nearly all printers, we sub-contracted all lamination to specialist trade finishing suppliers.

The second notable aspect to much of the printing above is that it uses a digital printing process, which lends itself to ‘print on demand’ as it’s known. Because our digital printing process requires no printing plates, set-up is quick, easy and inexpensive. This means that printing can be ordered when actually needed (true ‘print on demand’) rather than having to order and store large quantities like you might have to for litho printed items — just to keep the unit cost down. So, low quantities are possible, at the press of a button, as and when needed.

Business Cards for The Electoral Reform Society

Printed business cards for the Electoral Reform Society

Southside Print London Bridge recently re-printed business cards for The Electoral Reform Society which is based in the same SE1 London area and is a leading proponent for democratic reform in the UK. The business cards were printed in ‘full colour process’ (also known as ‘CMYK’) and were double-sided using a design and layout supplied by our very own Matt Potter here in the London Bridge branch of Southside Print. The cards used a 450gsm silk coated stock which, after printing, was finished with a matt lamination. This protects the cards as well as giving them a contemporary look and a soft, silky feel.

About the Society

The Society stands firm in their belief that “Politics can be better than it is” and campaigns for a better democracy.

“Our vision is a representative democracy fit for the 21st Century.”

Just a few of the specific issues that the Society aims to improve include:

  • the fact that the House of Lords remains totally unelected, flying in the face of a so-called democracy;
  • reducing the ‘gender gap’ by increasing the low number of women in politics;
  • reducing big money’s influence on politics;
  • making votes match the make-up of seats in Parliament more fairly;
  • making sure that those in power can be held to account by voters;
  • ensuring that every voter can help shape the decisions that will affect their lives.

Founded in 1884, The Electoral Reform Society was then known as the Proportional Representation Society. Its founder was the Victorian naturalist and archaeologist called Sir John Lubbock and its aim was to gather like-minded people together to fight for a fairer vote.  The Society quickly grew in numbers and included C.P. Scott, the editor of what’s now called The Guardian, The Reverend Charles Dodgson, who we all know better as ‘Lewis Carroll’, and Thomas Hare who brought about the Single Transferable Vote.

“Politics is too important to be left to the politicians”

Printing & design for 28°-50° Wine Workshop & KitchenSouthside Print London Bridge has recently been busy producing printing for the 3 branches of 28°-50° Wine Workshop & Kitchen as well as for their sister restaurant Texture. Litho printing was the process which was mostly used and work produced included business cards, leaflets, brochures, branded alcohol and dessert sheets, paper wine mats and even spot-printed greaseproof paper, which is quite a specialist process.

  • The business cards were litho printed both sides in 2 spot colours onto beautifully textured ‘Oyster’ coloured Conqueror Contour 300gsm card. Artwork was supplied by Southside Print London Bridge;
  • The lovely concertina leaflets – which were like mini brochures – were printed in full colour onto a 250gsm silk stock and again artwork was produced by Southside Print;
  • The alcohol and dessert sheets were litho printed on 190gsm Offset stock, printed in two spot colours;
  • Wine sheets were also litho printed in 2 spot colours, this time onto a ‘Papago Steel Grey’ 80gsm paper stock;
  • The greaseproof paper was litho printed in 1 spot colour.

Our sincere thanks go to all the restaurant staff involved and we’re really looking forward to paying a visit in the near future.

Printing for St George The Martyr SE1

Printing for St George The MartyrSouthside Print London Bridge recently produced artwork and printing for St George the Martyr, a church just a stone’s throw away in Borough High Street, SE1. Included in the work were double-sided business cards which were litho printed in full colour onto 450gsm silk card then finished with a ‘Soft Touch’ lamination. Soft Touch lamination is similar to matt lamination except, as the name suggests, it feels softer, almost like ultra-fine velvet. It’s also very protective, giving the business cards significant resistance to water and accidental damage, meaning that tears and even surface scratches are both highly unlikely to occur.

Southside Print London Bridge also printed leaflets which were digitally printed in full colour onto 200gsm silk stock and various A1 posters which were printed onto 190gsm Photo Satin stock with a matt encapsulation finish. That wasn’t the only large format printing, however, as Southside Print also produced some 3m wide, 500mm high traditional style ‘welcome’ banners which included hemming and eyelets, along with some roller banners which stand 2m high by 850mm wide. These were supplied with a handy carrying case for easy and compact transportation and are a breeze to erect when needed.

About St George The Martyr

Named after Saint George, this Church of England was built in 1735 and falls under the diocese of Southwark.  Built of brick and Portland Stone it is of National historic importance. It lies in historic Borough, South London, located in Borough High Street at the junction of Long Lane, Tabard Street and Marshalsea Road.

Over the years the church had suffered from subsidence and in 2005 received repair funds from the Heritage Lottery Fund.  During the remedial works, Medieval and Roman structures were uncovered — the current building is the third church to be built on the present site, the first being Norman. Digital & Thermo Printing for Barberini Fashion

Digital & thermographic printing for Barberini FashionSouthside Print London Bridge has recently produced digitally printed posters, mounted to foamex, for Barberini Fashion. Business cards were also printed in black and white using a thermographical process for the SE1 business.

Thermographic (‘thermo’) printing

Thermo printing is another printing service offered by Southside Print and the process results in a slightly raised, textured and usually high gloss finish to the areas which have been printed. The printing technique is an inexpensive way to raise the level of type or graphics on the surface of a printed sheet without going to the expense of embossing. The result often has an ‘orange peel’ kind of texture, which is most commonly high gloss. The thermographic process itself involves sprinkling powdered resin onto the still-wet printing ink, which results in the powder sticking to only those parts of the paper or card which have been printed. The sheet is then passed through a heater unit which melts the powder and fuses it to the printed areas, resulting in the innovative finish. The process if often used on things like greetings cards, stationery and invitations and has even been known to print Braille text, due to its raised nature.
