Business Cards for The Electoral Reform Society

Printed business cards for the Electoral Reform Society

Southside Print London Bridge recently re-printed business cards for The Electoral Reform Society which is based in the same SE1 London area and is a leading proponent for democratic reform in the UK. The business cards were printed in ‘full colour process’ (also known as ‘CMYK’) and were double-sided using a design and layout supplied by our very own Matt Potter here in the London Bridge branch of Southside Print. The cards used a 450gsm silk coated stock which, after printing, was finished with a matt lamination. This protects the cards as well as giving them a contemporary look and a soft, silky feel.

About the Society

The Society stands firm in their belief that “Politics can be better than it is” and campaigns for a better democracy.

“Our vision is a representative democracy fit for the 21st Century.”

Just a few of the specific issues that the Society aims to improve include:

  • the fact that the House of Lords remains totally unelected, flying in the face of a so-called democracy;
  • reducing the ‘gender gap’ by increasing the low number of women in politics;
  • reducing big money’s influence on politics;
  • making votes match the make-up of seats in Parliament more fairly;
  • making sure that those in power can be held to account by voters;
  • ensuring that every voter can help shape the decisions that will affect their lives.

Founded in 1884, The Electoral Reform Society was then known as the Proportional Representation Society. Its founder was the Victorian naturalist and archaeologist called Sir John Lubbock and its aim was to gather like-minded people together to fight for a fairer vote.  The Society quickly grew in numbers and included C.P. Scott, the editor of what’s now called The Guardian, The Reverend Charles Dodgson, who we all know better as ‘Lewis Carroll’, and Thomas Hare who brought about the Single Transferable Vote.

“Politics is too important to be left to the politicians”

Now based in London SE1, the Society is Read more

Digital Printing for Pulse Business Energy

Printing for Pulse Business Energy

Printing produced by Southside Print London Bridge:

Southside Print London Bridge produces printing for Pulse Business Energy (more about them below) and you can see some printed examples in the image above. Work shown includes digital printing for three 8-page, full colour (‘CMYK’) A4 brochures/reports, each focusing on Pulse’s energy purchasing strategy. The finished result is professional, functional and attractive including matt lamination to the outside for a nice silky feel plus the additional protection that the lamination process lends to the documents. Covers were digitally printed onto 350gsm silk coated stock with internal ‘text’ pages being printed on matching 170gsm paper, all from artwork supplied by the customer.

Other work which we regularly produce for Pulse Business Energy includes:

  • Tender reports which are produced digitally in very small quantities (perfect for digital print) which we print using 350gsm silk coated covers, a matt laminated finish to the outside, 250gsm dividers and 170gsm silk coated text pages. These are then usually perfect bound like a soft-back book.
  • A4 leaflets which we print on 170gsm paper from the customer’s artwork;
  • Letterheads which we print onto 120gsm paper stock, again from artwork supplied.
  • Artwork is usually supplied by the client for all items, however with our in-house design and artwork capabilities we are able to amend spine wording and positioning as well as adding customer logos to their tender documents.

Our sincere thanks go to Pulse for all the work to date.

About The Fawcett Society

In 1866 two sisters, Elizabeth Garett Anderson and Millicent Garett Fawcett (nee Garett), started their life-long campaign for women to get the vote and equal rights. It took them 60 years to achieve this goal, one which has since shaped women’s rights in so many areas of life, “helping to bring about a society where the gender you are does not limit the life chances you have” to quote their mission statement. The two women were extremely hard-working and knowledgeable and, with help from family and the suffragettes, became a force to be reckoned with.

Elizabeth died in 1917 and Millicent in 1929 but their work and legacy positively impacts society to this day — the Fawcett Society continues the hard work started by the two sisters from their HQ in London SE1 with a dedicated team launching campaigns, providing up-to-date news on all related issues and bringing about support for women in all aspects of life.

Campaigns

The Society’s most recent campaigns have included “Views Not Shoes” which looks into the issue where male leaders’ wives get more media attention than female politicians. As part of this, the Fawcett Society looked at how much media coverage female politicians and candidates got in the build-up to the 2015 Election, the nature of the coverage and how often women were central to the economic stories.

Other campaigns include “Women in the Economy” which addresses the question as to where women’s voices are in important economical matters along with their “Equal Pay Day” campaign which, as the name suggests, addresses the gender pay gap.

You can catch up on all these campaigns and more on their website at www.fawcettsociety.org.uk.  There you will also find latest news and issues together with details of how to support the Society or join one of the many local groups. You can also shop for Christmas gifts there (e.g. some great t-shirts) in their online shop.

Printing & design for 28°-50° Wine Workshop & KitchenSouthside Print London Bridge has recently been busy producing printing for the 3 branches of 28°-50° Wine Workshop & Kitchen as well as for their sister restaurant Texture. Litho printing was the process which was mostly used and work produced included business cards, leaflets, brochures, branded alcohol and dessert sheets, paper wine mats and even spot-printed greaseproof paper, which is quite a specialist process.

  • The business cards were litho printed both sides in 2 spot colours onto beautifully textured ‘Oyster’ coloured Conqueror Contour 300gsm card. Artwork was supplied by Southside Print London Bridge;
  • The lovely concertina leaflets – which were like mini brochures – were printed in full colour onto a 250gsm silk stock and again artwork was produced by Southside Print;
  • The alcohol and dessert sheets were litho printed on 190gsm Offset stock, printed in two spot colours;
  • Wine sheets were also litho printed in 2 spot colours, this time onto a ‘Papago Steel Grey’ 80gsm paper stock;
  • The greaseproof paper was litho printed in 1 spot colour.

Our sincere thanks go to all the restaurant staff involved and we’re really looking forward to paying a visit in the near future.

Printing for St George The Martyr SE1

Printing for St George The MartyrSouthside Print London Bridge recently produced artwork and printing for St George the Martyr, a church just a stone’s throw away in Borough High Street, SE1. Included in the work were double-sided business cards which were litho printed in full colour onto 450gsm silk card then finished with a ‘Soft Touch’ lamination. Soft Touch lamination is similar to matt lamination except, as the name suggests, it feels softer, almost like ultra-fine velvet. It’s also very protective, giving the business cards significant resistance to water and accidental damage, meaning that tears and even surface scratches are both highly unlikely to occur.

Southside Print London Bridge also printed leaflets which were digitally printed in full colour onto 200gsm silk stock and various A1 posters which were printed onto 190gsm Photo Satin stock with a matt encapsulation finish. That wasn’t the only large format printing, however, as Southside Print also produced some 3m wide, 500mm high traditional style ‘welcome’ banners which included hemming and eyelets, along with some roller banners which stand 2m high by 850mm wide. These were supplied with a handy carrying case for easy and compact transportation and are a breeze to erect when needed.

About St George The Martyr

Named after Saint George, this Church of England was built in 1735 and falls under the diocese of Southwark.  Built of brick and Portland Stone it is of National historic importance. It lies in historic Borough, South London, located in Borough High Street at the junction of Long Lane, Tabard Street and Marshalsea Road.

Over the years the church had suffered from subsidence and in 2005 received repair funds from the Heritage Lottery Fund.  During the remedial works, Medieval and Roman structures were uncovered — the current building is the third church to be built on the present site, the first being Norman. Design & Printing for Blackfriars Wine Bar

Blackfriars Wine Bar design & printingBlackfriars Wine Bar & Restaurant is another local business which has been using the design and printing services available from Southside Print London Bridge. In the image above you can see a few examples — more about them follows below …

Design & printing for leaflets and menus

Recent graphic design and printing produced for Blackfriars Wine Bar & Restaurant includes:

  • A5 Christmas leaflets which were designed by Southside Print London Bridge, and printed on a 190gsm offset stock.
  • 12-page menus at a size of H280mm x W200mm (so, just a little smaller than A4) which were, again, designed in-house by Southside Print London Bridge. The menu cover was printed digitally onto a 350gsm silk stock and finished with matt lamination to the front and back. The 8 internal pages were also printed digitally onto a 120gsm white stock although the design included a ‘parchment’ style printed background which gives it its vintage colouring. To finish off, the cover and internal pages had holes drilled neatly down the spine, through which a red chord was tied to hold everything together. This approach also means that the internal pages can easily be substituted should any pricing or menu item change inside.

About Blackfriars Wine Bar & Restaurant

Blackfriars Wine Bar is a charming place to meet up for a drink — or for a great value, wholesome meal. The South London Press describes it as “Extremely good value for money”. The wine bar is located under a railway arch, which helps to give it a character and charm of its own, in Scoresby Street just off Blackfriars Road. It’s the perfect destination whether you’re looking for somewhere welcoming for lunch, a drink before you go home after work, an evening with friends or for your office or private party. Read more

Fast turnaround, short-run digital printing for BOST

Southside Print London Bridge has recently printed leaflets and flyers for Bankside Open Spaces Trust (‘BOST’), an award-winning charity with an HQ just around the corner in Redcross Way, SE1. The printing included A5 and A4 single sided leaflets printed in full colour onto 170gsm silk paper stock. As quantities required were fairly low, this suited Southside Print’s digital presses perfectly and also allowed for a very fast turnaround and very affordable pricing. Artwork was supplied by the customer and you can see the two printed documents in the image above.

“A thriving network of community managed green places”

About Bankside Open Spaces Trust

BOST was set up to improve parks, gardens and open spaces in and around the Bankside area. As they say in their mission statement, BOST is “bringing people in SE1 together to create and enjoy meaningful green and outdoor spaces” and such spaces under their influence are now many and varied, including Waterloo Millennium Green, the Garden at Tate Modern, the Marlborough Sports Garden, Crossbones Garden, Red Cross Garden and a whole host of other spaces all located in the SE1 region of London. As they say on their website, BOST is a ‘thriving network of community managed green places” and these include ‘Edible Bankside’ which is a sustainable food-growing initiative taking place in just under 30 or so community gardens which are mostly to be found on social housing land within SE1. This year these gardens accounted for 5,000 square metres of food growing space.

The Flower & Vegetable Show 2015

This is an annual event, organised by BOST and hosted in Red Cross Garden, which takes place this year on Friday 18 September from 3pm to 6pm. This year it celebrates 10 years since the regeneration of Red Cross Garden in Redcross Way SE1. Entry is free and the event is open to everyone. Read more
