Personal Stationery Printers in Southwark

Personal stationery printers in southwark & London SE1

Personal Stationery

As well as being designers and printers of business stationery, Southside Print also produces personal stationery. This can be anything from a simple, typographic letterhead to a full colour, highly designed suite of stationery including overprinted letterheads, compliments slips, business cards and even envelopes. Each might include a personal logo, calligraphic motif or indeed even a family coat of arms. Personal stationery is not for everyone but it is perfect for the image-conscious and those who want to give people a convenient reminder of their name and contact details.

Personal Business Cards

Personal business cards are a great tool for creating a good first impression. Let’s say you’re at a posh function and want to do a bit of networking. Without a personal business card, you may initially impress but you may also be forgotten again within minutes without some kind of reminder. Hand out a beautifully designed personal business card and it’s sure to remind your prospect or future employer of you once again. After all, it’s something they can keep long term. Personal business cards are great at interviews, networking events, functions, trade shows or when you’re selling your services in some way on a one-to-one basis. Of course, in their simplest form, they are also a convenient way of reminding friends and family of your contact details and home address.

Personal Letterheads

Personal letterheads are a great tool for those wishing to create the best impression when communicating via the written word. Whether you’re sending off your CV, working as a sole trader or liaising personally at a high level, bespoke letterheads allow you to look great even though you’re not right there in person. You will stand out from the crowd as someone with style and as someone who goes the extra mile.

Personal Compliments Slips & Envelopes

You can take this a step or two further by including personal compliments slips and overprinted envelopes in your suite of personal stationery. So, the moment your envelope arrives with your intended recipient, they will know it contains a communication from you. And compliments slips are useful when you want to perhaps send something to someone and have no time to scribble a note. With the compliments slip accompanying the item you supplied, it all speaks for itself with minimal effort and fuss.

Personal stationery will tell people that you are a quality individual and be a lasting reminder of something very special … you!

Image, Information & a Useful Reminder

Put simply, personal stationery will tell people that you are a quality individual. Your personal stationery will impress, let the recipient know your contact details and be a lasting reminder of something very special; you. Read more

Restored Artwork for Restorative Justice

Restored Artwork for Restorative Justice

Sometimes even a supposedly simple piece of design and artwork can meet with unforeseen complications, which can then make printing seemingly impossible. That’s exactly what happened with some business cards for our local client Why Me? recently, when their original artwork went completely missing. They’d had some fairly straight forward business cards produced in the past, but couldn’t locate the original artwork files. That’s where Southside Print’s Matt Potter came to the rescue. Matt is Southside Print’s resident graphic designer. He simply used some of the last few remaining cards as visual reference and, based on those, managed to rebuild the artwork entirely from scratch. He successfully matched fonts, colours, the layout and the design and, in no time at all, the ‘new’ business cards had been printed and supplied to the client — a great outcome for everyone.

Lost your Artwork? Need it Restored?

No problem at all. As with the business cards above, we can usually match fonts or find something very similar if an exact match is not possible. We can also match colours, design layouts and often we can even reproduce or substitute missing graphics. While some graphics are easier to replace than others, our talented design and artwork team can usually save the day and rescue the situation in virtually every case. That’s true whether it’s for business cards, leaflets, brochures or something larger like a poster or display panel. We can supply a free quotation before proceeding, of course, so you’ve nothing to lose by asking us for potential help.

About ‘Why Me?’

Why Me? is a national charity that primarily helps victims of crime to attain some kind of restorative justice. As part of this, the charity’s Restorative Justice Service helps offenders to understand the true impact of their crimes which, in turn, can often help to stop them re-offending in the future. Indeed, this is exactly how the charity started life …

The charity was started by Will Riley, himself a victim of crime. Back in 2002 when Will was a London businessman, a burglar gained entry to his house. Will confronted the burglar, a struggle ensued and Will eventually managed to hand the burglar over to the police. It turned out that the burglar was a career criminal named Peter Woolf. Woolf was sent to prison for the crime but the two men later met again voluntarily at a ‘Restorative Justice’ meeting at Pentonville Prison.

“Imagine the person who has caused you harm is sitting opposite… What would you say?”

Will, the victim, was able to explain the impact of the burglary directly to the offender in question and to obtain answers to some challenging questions. This process turned out to be a healing one and represented quite a turning point for both men. Will Riley subsequently felt that he was no longer fearful of opening his front door and Peter Woolf stopped offending completely, going ‘straight’ after many years of crime. Not only did both men directly benefit but also it meant that potentially hundreds of additional people did not become victims of the burglar once he left prison. Such is the power and potential of Restorative Justice.

The video below explains more and features both Will and Peter, who both now Read more

‘Click & Collect’ Printing in London SE1

Click & Collect printing in London SE1

As we said in our last post, one of the great things about our new online print shop is the ability to order and pay for your printing 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. So, even if it’s the weekend, a Bank Holiday, Christmas Day or 3am in the morning, you can still order your printing without needing to leave your home or office. Of course, you can also order on the go from your mobile device.  Either way, you can then tick one more thing off your ‘to do’ list, safe in the knowledge that your job is now already heading into production.

What’s even better, though, is that companies and organisations close to London Bridge, Borough and SE1 can ‘Click & Collect’. There are several benefits:

Click & Collect printing from Tabard Street, London SE1‘Click & Collect’ is Convenient

When ordering online, simply select ‘Collect in store’ in the Delivery section and then you can collect your printing from our London SE1 shop as soon as it’s ready. Collect at any time during our office hours (9am to 5.30pm week days) or call us to see if we’re likely to be around outside of those hours. Click & Collect means you don’t need to wait in for a delivery and also your printing is going to be as fresh as the moment it came off the printing press.

Click & Collect is Faster

Another huge benefit of Click & Collect is that you can usually get your printing a day sooner than is possible with the ‘delivered’ option.

True 24/7 convenience for print ordering in London & SE1.

Re-Order with a Couple of Clicks

Once you’ve ordered once from our new online print shop, you can log in at any time to see a record of current and historical orders. Rescue Unfinished Orders

Even incomplete orders are included in your order history! Let’s say you were running late for a meeting or were interrupted at the last minute so couldn’t complete your online order. No problem at all — as long as you were logged in when you began, simply log in again when you’re ready to resume and you’ll see your unfinished order right there in your free account. Simply click ‘View’ against the incomplete order concerned and take the final steps to finish it off. With just a click or two, it’ll be queued in our system and heading directly to production.

In fact two dates are shown — a ‘collect by’ date and a ‘delivery by’ date. So, simply choose whether you would like to collect from the shop or whether you’d prefer to have your printing delivered to your door (usually one working day later than the collection option). Either way, the price is the same*.

Digital Printing for St George the Martyr, Borough

Digital printing for St George The Martyr, Borough High Street, London SE1

Poster printing for St George The Martyr, Borough High StreetSouthside Print have been producing a huge variety of digital printing recently for St George The Martyr, a church just down the road in Borough High Street in London’s SE1 district. Having selected us as their local printer some years ago, we’re delighted to say that they’ve remained a very loyal and regular customer and, as such, we’ve printed rather a lot for them in recent months!

Print Examples

Here are just a few examples of print work that we’ve recently supplied:

  • A series of stunning business cards were printed in full colour on our digital presses before being ‘soft touch laminated’ to both sides. This protects them and gives them a lovely velvety feel to the touch. We printed the cards on 450gsm silk coated stock and the finished result is superb. Note the beautiful imagery that features on one side of each card (see main image above).
  • The ‘Quest for Community’ poster/leaflet was printed in full colour, both sides onto 170gsm art paper, which has a beautiful gloss finish. This was part of the St George in Southwark Festival back in April 2016 and we rather like the graphics!
  • More recently, we printed a series of leaflets for the 2018 version of the same festival. Again, these were printed on our digital press, in full colour, once more using 170gsm glossy paper.
  • Digitally printed full colour leaflets and programmesAnother item that we printed recently for St George The Martyr is the A5 folded ‘New Home’ leaflet/brochure shown in one of the photographs on the right. Like the other leaflets and programmes mentioned above, these were also printed onto 170gsm paper stock except, this time, they had a silk coated finish rather than gloss.
  • Last but not least in our featured printing for St George The Martyr is a very interesting, perfect bound, 64 page A4 book. This details the history of the church and its surrounding community (see below for further details). The book features 340gsm covers and 170gsm ‘Arcoset’ internal pages and is printed digitally.

Today, as an integral part of the local community, the church is open most days and offers regular religious services and a Sunday School along with a varied array of inclusive programmes and events. These include anything from lunchtime concerts to Easter festivals. The church also runs a food bank, hosts The Dragon Café (the flagship project from ‘Mental Fight Club’) and offers a wide variety of additional opportunities to meet other people, get advice and to offer or indeed receive help of one form or another. The church also has a close relationship with its own school, St Jude’s Church of England Primary School, whose pupils sometimes sing at the services. Visitors to the church are always welcomed with open arms including those who would simply like to see the beautiful building itself or to take a look inside.

For some historical facts about St George the Martyr, please see our previous post from October 2015. That touched upon the Medieval and Roman structures uncovered during restoration works, the location originally being the site of a Norman church and the church’s links to Charles Dickens and Marshalsea Prison — it’s quite fascinating!

A4 perfect bound book, printed and produced by Southside Print, London SE1St George the Martyr’s Heritage

As mentioned above, St George the Martyr has produced some very interesting new booklets which detail the church’s history and that of the surrounding community. It provides a fascinating insight into the ever-changing area around Borough High Street. The lovely new books are available for sale from the church office.

The Church’s Lunch Club

During the summer holidays, St George the Martyr will be running a lunch club for local children and families who may be facing food poverty over the long holidays, particularly in the absence of free school meals during that period. The lunch club will provide a hot 2 course meal, free of charge, along with some fun activities for the children. The club will take place on Tuesdays, from 11am –1pm, between 24th July and 28th August 2018.

The club organisers would love to hear from any volunteers who may be able to offer help including assisting in the kitchen, serving meals, helping with the children’s activities (they are of pre-school and primary age). The church would also be happy to receive any food donations or financial contributions towards the running costs from any willing parties. Please see the contact information below if this is of interest.

Printing for ‘Venice in Peril’, London SW6

Printing for Venice in Peril Fund

Southside Print has recently had the honour of being the chosen London printer for a charity based just a few miles away; the Venice in Peril Fund. We printed the A4 flyers/postcards shown below, right, as well as some DL sized flyers, A5 flyers and stationery that included various business cards. The A5 postcards shown below were printed on 190gsm White Essential Offset card. This wood-free paper stock has a trendy, uncoated feel, offers great value for money and gives a superb printed result on our digital and litho printing presses. The DL flyers were printed on the same material and publicised some of the charity’s spring lectures last year.

The charity has also used Southside Print to print onto ‘Favini Alga Carta’, their very own recycled paper that was developed from algae, originally from the Venice lagoon but more recently from other marine sites. You can read more about this innovative paper, along with the incredible idea behind it, here.

VeniceAbout Venice in Peril

Anyone who has ever eaten a ‘Veneziana’ pizza at a Pizza Express restaurant will have already heard of the Venice in Peril Fund. A small discretionary donation, included with every Veneziana pizza order, has raised over £2 million for the charity since the partnership began in 1975.

The Venice in Peril Fund came into existence following the terrible floods of 1966, which severely damaged both Venice and Florence, Italy. Initially called the Art & Archives Rescue Fund (IAARF), the fund-raising activity for the Florence region had served its purpose by 1967, so the focus for fundraising was redirected solely towards Venice and the organisation was re-launched as The Venice in Peril Fund that we know today.

Venice in Peril has its UK headquarters just 7 miles West of Southside Print in Putney, London SW6. The registered charity has been in existence for over forty years, during which time it has raised millions of pounds, primarily for the conservation of buildings, monuments and works of art in Venice. The city remains under constant threat from the surrounding water, rising sea levels and pollution but the charity goes much further than helping to fight only those threats. Along with its conservation work, the Venice in Peril Fund pays for studies, events, education and advocacy for, and about, the region. In support of this work, Venice in Peril also promotes a deeper understanding of Venice – its complex history, the contribution it has made to world culture and the challenges it faces today – to encourage responsible and informed engagement with the city.

On the 24th of April, the 12th Kirker Spring Lecture will be taking place at the Royal Geographical Society in London SW7. The lecture is by award-winning restaurateur, writer and broadcaster Russell Norman. Russell operates and co-founded several restaurants under the POLPO banner in London and elsewhere, has won several major awards for his books, presented a six-part prime-time documentary (The Restaurant Man) for BBC2 in 2014 and has been recognised by Debretts as one of the 500 most influential people in the UK. His lecture is entitled “The Food of Venice and the Lagoon: how its culinary traditions are as important as its people and its stones” and is being held in aid of the Venice in Peril Fund. Doors open at 6pm with a reception followed by the lecture itself at 7pm. Tickets are £20. More detail about the event, along with ticket purchases, is available here. You can also click the thumbnail image of the A5 postcard/flyer published for this lecture, shown on the right, for more information. The flyer is one of several marketing pieces printed for the charity by Southside Print in London SE1.

Some exciting news to share with you…

As a welcome gift from Rob the new owner of Southside Print SE1, you can save 10% off the price of business stationery for the next two weeks until 17th April 2018.

It’s Alan here from Southside Print, with a rather special announcement. What’s more, it’s exciting on several levels as it’s a win-win (… win) for you, me and a lovely couple, who I’ll tell you more about in a minute.

So, what’s happening?

Well, after 35 years in the printing industry, I’ve decided to hang up my printing apron, grab my slippers, put the kettle on and spend more time at home with my lovely wife. You’ve guessed it … I’m retiring!

It’s been amazing working with lovely clients like you over the last 35 years and I wanted to say a massive thank you to each and every one of you before I went off into the sunset. So, “thank you” — you’ve done us all proud over the years and I wish you all well for the future.

Which brings me back to that lovely couple …

I’d like to introduce you to Robert Phillips (‘Rob’) and Sarah Codd. As well as being recently married and rather lovely, they are now also the proud new owners of Southside Print. They’re print veterans too, having worked in the industry for almost 31 years. So, they really know their stuff! Rob and Sarah will be taking over from 30 March 2018 and will join the existing team of Matt, Aidan, Paul, Eve and Linda, so you’ll still see the same familiar faces as well as the two new arrivals.

Sarah Codd and Rob Phillips, new owners of Southside Print, SE1.

Multiple benefits for you …

I mentioned at the start that this would also be a ‘win’ for you, as a customer. In fact it’s a multiple win! First, Rob and Sarah will be bringing with them some snazzy new equipment, so you’ll be able to get even more out of Southside Print. Just one example is a new digital press that can print on sheets up to 1.2 metres in length and will allow us to make a 16 page A5 booklet out of just one sheet. That’s going to be great for speed and economy!

Secondly, you’ll soon see the benefits of a new, significant investment into software that’ll allow you to track your work during production — and much, much more. You should see this introduced around Autumn 2018 and we’ll give you more detail nearer the time.

Last but not least, save 10% on stationery printing

Save 10% off all business stationery until 17th April 2018.As a welcome gift from Rob, you can save 10% off the price of business stationery for the next two weeks. That includes business cards (minimum quantity just 100), letterheads, continuation sheets and compliments slips etc. Simply mention “ROB’S WELCOME OFFER” at the time of your order and you’ll receive the saving (valid until 17th April).

So it’s farewell from me …

My last day at Southside Print was the 29th of March so, from the 30th, I left you in the very capable hands of Rob and Sarah. That just leaves me to wish you a very happy, healthy and successful future and to say a huge ‘thank you’ once again for keeping me so busy for all of these years.

My very best regards to you,

Alan Garelick

Printing for Bikecation, a Cycling Holiday Company in Borough High Street

Digital & large format printing for Bikecation in Borough High Street

Just like the organisation featured in our last post, our latest case study is for a customer based in Borough High Street. This time it’s the turn of a dynamic cycling holiday company, aptly named Bikecation. Located just a stone’s throw from our print works in SE1, it made good sense for them to try the services of a local printer and we were very pleased to help. Print jobs included some eye-catching posters, which were printed on 200gsm ‘photo satin’ stock, along with some promotional business cards, which were printed on 300gsm silk coated stock. Bikecation supplied the design and artwork files and, as you can see, the design is striking and contemporary. Production was turned around very fast, although the customer didn’t really require them for about a week — we just like to get ahead at Southside Print!

Take a look at some of the A1 posters:

About Bikecation

Bikecation started life after a conversation between two cycling enthusiasts; Rob Penn, formerly a City lawyer, and Jamie Paterson, a businessman. Both were keen advocates of the simple pleasures of bike riding and enjoyed travelling. Bikecation turned their shared dream of starting a custom cycling holiday company into reality. As well as being a tour guide for the company, Rob has a best-selling book ‘It’s all About the Bike: the Pursuit of Happiness on Two Wheels’ which has been translated into nine languages and has been made into a BBC documentary called ‘Ride of My Life‘.

Bikecation offers a wide range of custom cycling holidays including leisure cycling holidays, road cycling holidays, a more adventurous style of guided cycling trip called Rob Raids (personally guided by Rob Penn), bespoke mini breaks, cycling training camp breaks, cycling sportives and even ‘Watch & Ride’ breaks where you can watch famous bike races like the Tour de France whilst also getting the chance to ride the course yourself before the actual event.

Included amongst the cycling breaks on offer are corporate tours, private guided holidays and even organised charity events. Destinations include a wide range of beautiful locations in the UK as well as Europe and it’s up to you whether or not you’d like to be accompanied by a Bikecation cycling guide on your particular trip. Bikecation also moves your luggage for you, so you are free to enjoy the cycling and the stunning views. So, whether you’re into slow-paced family cycling along gentle routes in Wales, island hopping in Croatia, doing wine and food tours by bike in Bordeaux, or really going hell-for-leather up classic cycling climbs in the Alps, Bikecation has something to suit you. The range of options is outstanding! What’s more, all hotels are checked and pre-vetted to suit cyclists and sports enthusiasts as well as being hand-picked so they’re perfectly located along the very best cycling routes.

The Huge Potential of the Humble Business Card

The Humble Business Card – & Its Huge Potential

For such a tiny item of print, the humble business card can punch well above its weight as a business marketing tool. However, it can only do that if it’s designed and printed exceptionally well, then handed over in tip-top condition. First impressions really count.

Despite being such an important promotional item, business cards can be extremely economical to print – even with extra finishes and embellishments (we’ll come to those shortly). So, it makes sense to ensure that business cards are well designed in the first place, printed professionally with high-end printing machines and then protected at all times before hand-over. Keep them safe when storing them or transporting them so they are pristine and at their most impressive when delivered to your prospects and contacts. Going that small extra mile for a relatively modest price, together with a little bit of care, is really a no-brainer — there is absolutely no need to spoil that all-important first impression for the sake of just a few pennies per card and a little care.

Business Card Sizes & Shapes

Business card standard and non-standard sizes and shapesThe ‘standard’ size for business cards is ‘credit card’ size, usually being about 85mm x 55mm, however, sizes aren’t carved in stone so your card can actually be any size you like. Also, you don’t necessarily have to limit yourself to a rectangular card with standard ‘square cut’ corners — shapes are also possible.

  • You can have rounded corners on all, or just some, of the corners –  in fact opposing corners with curves can look rather funky (see example on the bottom row, on the right).
  • You can get us to die-cut the business cards to a totally bespoke shape. These can be geometric, circular, square or lozenge-shaped cards or totally irregular shapes to follow the graphics or image printed, for those who want to be a little different.

Lamination Options

Any kind of lamination, including matt, gloss or ‘soft touch’ options, can give business cards a nice feel as well as adding a protective layer to help limit the effects of wear, fingerprints and moisture. Lamination can also affect the colours printed underneath, with matt and soft-touch lamination flattening the contrast to give a modern, fresh feel, and gloss lamination deepening contrast in images and photographs at the same time as making the colours look more deep and saturated.

Spot UV Varnish

Spot UV varnish is also very popular on business cards. This clear, highly glossy varnish can really make particular features on your business card stand out. That’s particularly true when the remainder of the card is designed and finished so as to be very matt. So, if the card is printed on uncoated card or if it’s matt laminated, for example, that would work beautifully when juxtaposed against a glossy, UV varnished spot-printed area. A glossy spot UV varnished logo, for instance, can really make the logo stand out and draw attention to your brand, making it a focal point of the card, catching the light at certain angles and adding a feel of real high quality to boot. We can also gloss varnish with a range of surface textures – just ask for details.

Card Stock

The base card used can also make a big difference to the final impact of your business card. Standard business cards might use a ‘coated’ card base (matt, silk or gloss card with a special surface coating which lifts colours) or an ‘uncoated’ card for those who want their cards to look a little more ‘natural’ and don’t mind the lower contrast colours which result.

Within those core card types, there are also many more sub-types of card. These include recycled card for those who wish to be as eco-friendly as they can, partly recycled for those who wish to be eco-friendly but perhaps get some of the benefits of non-recycled card (e.g. brighter whites), tinted card stock (e.g. cream, ivory, pale colours and various whites) and finally textured cards. We can supply business cards with flat surfaces, a linen type texture, an ‘onion skin’ texture, ‘laid’ textures (small stripes in the make-up of the card stock) and many other kinds of texture. Technical note: while the ‘flat’ standard card types might be laminated, the textured variety would not usually be laminated otherwise the process of lamination tends to flatten any inherent texture to a degree, due to the pressure applied during the lamination process.

Attention to detail
